Maximizing Quality of Life by Motivating Healthy Lifestyles and Environment
February 2016 – Today marks the World Cancer Day and Al-Huda believesthat We Can together make a difference to control cancer and reduce its impact. As part of World Cancer Day, Al-Huda organized a Cancer Day Event at it’s main campus at H-11, Islamabad. The objective of the event was to raise awareness and to educate on how to fight cancer through screening and early detection, through healthy eating and by quitting smoking. A large gathering other than students and staff attended the session. Dr. UzmaQasim,Associate Consultant Oncologist,Shifa International Hospital was invited to talk about ‘Cancer: causes, symptoms and cure’. She emphasized that ‘regular exercise, simple and nutritious diet, as well as regular check-ups can play a vital role in defeating this life threatening disease’. She also explained the importance of “Complimentary Therapy” of cancer, which includes taking care of the right nutrition (naturopathic food/medicine), physical rehabilitation as well as catering for the spiritual and emotional needs of the patient. This treatment helps in increasing the life-quality and life-span of cancer patients. Finally she gave satisfactory answers to the questions of the audience.
‘Three years ago when I was a student at Al-Huda, my son (2 years old) was diagnosed with cancer. It was extremely painful to see him go through his treatment and yet each day the words of the Qur’an consoled my pain. My son passed away in 2014 but this experience compelled me to bring a difference in the lives of children who were suffering both physically and emotionally due to cancer. This cancer day I am pleased to announce the support me and my friends are offering to the pediatric cancer ward at CMH since December 2015. All praise be to Allah Al-Mighty and many sincere duas for Al-Huda for showing me another perspective of life…remember I Can, We Can really make a difference. ‘ Dr. Zainab Umar

A special stall was arranged to introduce people to books, pamphlets and cards especially on the topic of healing. At the same time, brochures with beneficial information on cancer were distributed. Information was put up on notice boards to benefit the visitors.
Proactively involved to benefit humanity, Dr. FarhatHashmi, CEO Al-Huda International says, ‘World Cancer Day is important because it gives us a chance to console those in pain. It gives us a realization that life is precious and we must take care of our health. We must make healthy lifestyle choices that include eating a healthy diet, getting plenty of physical activity, avoiding unhealthy diet and habits– this can be easily achieved if we lead a life following the Sunnah of our beloved Messenger (s.a.w).A believer tries to remain positive in all circumstances, practices patience, makes dua and hopes for the best reward from Allah (s.w.t).’
Our support for cancer patients continues so we can play our part – collectively or as individuals – to reduce the global burden of cancer. Al-Huda is serving at the cancer ward JPMC since 5 years. The students and staff visit the patients. They are given fruits, milk, juices etc. They are taught matters of basic hygiene, as well as basics of Deen as per need of the patient. In addition to this, since 2011 Al-Huda has been providing drips, which are needed for chemotherapy. We on the average cater to 300 patients per month. Our team of volunteers will also visit cancer patients at Shifa International next week. We hope to bring a difference in their lives by offering support, teaching them supplications for healing and giving them gifts…
…because Al-Huda Cares!
